Unit Four Project based Assessment

PROJECT BASED ASSESSMENT

  1. Students will create a presentation that pairs visual art with writing— First, students need to select the work of an artist or author whom they admire from the teacher preselected list.  Next, research the author or artist and will create a BIOPOEM (template attached) on the author or artist they have chosen.  Second, on a separate sheet of paper, students will write 2 paragraphs depicting the biography of the selected artist or author.  Then write 1 paragraph to explain the rationale for their author/artist selection, describing how the work inspires them.  They will use vocabulary terms from the unit on the elements of art to describe the art work, whether their own creation, or the artist’s work, and they will clearly describe the relationship between the written work and the artwork. Paragraphs must be 8-10 sentences.
  2. Students will create their own art poster on printer paper (drawn, painted, collage) that was inspired by the author or artist they selected.  It can be a unique work of art expressing the themes and ideas of their selected author or artist, or if it is an artist, it may be a recreation of the original painting, photograph, or drawing.  NO PRINTED IMAGES (unless it’s a collage of 8-10 images)– MUST BE CREATED!!
  3. For the oral presentation, students will explain the rationale for their author/artist selection, describing how the work inspires them.  They will use vocabulary terms from the unit on the elements of art to describe the art work, whether their own creation, or the artist’s work, and they will clearly describe the relationship between the written work and the artwork. Students must also present their poster and explain the rationale for what inspired it.
  4. Must submit completed word study dictionary with the project.
